ReplyDelete1) Pound - abbreviation for "pounds sterling", the basic money unit of the UK. Common slang calls it a "quid". It's divided into 100 pence (although it used to consist of 20 shillings, and each shilling was 12 pence).
2) Meter - the distance that light travels in 1/299,792,458 of a second. Approximately 39.37 inches (1.09 yards) in length.
3) Loo - toilet
4) Queue - a line
5) Bloody - an expletive thought to derive from the time of the War of the Roses, derived from the phrase "of the blood".
If you want to avoid mad cow disease, the safest way is to avoid beef. However, the statistical chance of catching mad cow disease is extremely slim, even before the more extreme measures were put in place a few years ago to prevent its spread.
